11 years since the consumerist musings of Tesco, Matthew Herbert reanimates his Wishmountain project and heads deep underground to find the source material for Stonework: 1000 metres down.
For this album he’s drawn from a sample library created as a commission for the Stone Techno festival, which took place at the UNESCO World Heritage Zeche Zollverein mine in Essen, Germany.

To celebrate Matthew Herbert’s comeback as Wishmountain and the upcoming live performance at Dekmantel festival on 6 August, Accidental Jnr releases a collection of Wishmountain’s seminal works as well as remixes of his latest Stonework: 1000 metres down album (2022) by the likes of experimental club music producer & DJ based in Malaysia & Singapore rEmPiT g0dDe$$ alongside German DJs and producers Berk Offset and Ancient Methods.
Like many of Herbert’s projects, Wishmountain releases revolve around specific, material sound palettes - a practical hardware restriction in the early 90s which became a purposeful way of working for Herbert where the limitations on the source material sharpen the focus of the music.
Those limitations carried through the 1999 album Wishmountainisdead to 2012’s Tesco with its sampling of the British supermarket chain’s 10 most popular products and fast forward to the present day with Stonework (2022) which pits Herbert in the minimal techno mines to hammer out 10 hypnotic, jiggly rhythmelodic workouts.
Young Marco raids his personal collection for this 10-track mix that runs from dark house to digital reggae & back. Bandcamp New & Notable Mar 13, 2017
